Jahangirzadeh made the remarks while speaking during a joint meeting of activists from public and private sectors of Gilan province in northern Iran.

Referring to President Hassan Rouhani's recommendation for accelerating the project, the ambassador said that the railway and making use of it is like 'a giant oil well'.

In addition to exports of fruits and other products, the railway can create new job opportunities, Jahangirzadeh said.

He said that the annual trade between Iran and Azerbaijan now stands at over $ 500 million and the volume of joint oil cooperation stands at nearly $ 350 million a year.
