Airbus, Boeing react to Trump's quitting JCPOA

“We’re carefully analyzing the announcement and will be evaluating next steps consistent with our internal policies and in full compliance with sanctions and export control regulations,” Airbus communications chief Rainer Ohler said, adding, “This will take some time.”

France 24 reported that Boeing has announced that it will follow the US President Donald Trump's decision about the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In fact, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg had been preparing to put the brakes on the Iran sales even before Tuesday's announcement.

Trump said that the United States is pulling out of deal meant to curb Iran's nuclear weapons program and reinstating economic sanctions on Iran, CNN Money reported on Tuesday.

This is while, Iran has repeatedly announced its nuclear activities are peaceful, a fact verified at least 10 times by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Boeing has deals to sell 80 aircraft to Iran Air, Iran's flagship carrier, and an additional 30 commercial jets to the country's Aseman Airlines.

Boeing and Airbus will lose contracts worth roughly 39 billion dollars to replenish Iran’s aging fleet of commercial planes as part of the Trump administration’s reimposition of sanctions, wrote the Washington Post.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters on Tuesday, “The Boeing and Airbus licenses will be revoked.'

The top European Union diplomat, Federica Mogherini, on Tuesday, called on the international community to stick to the Iran nuclear deal despite US President Donald Trump announcing he was pulling out and would reimpose sanctions on Tehran.

Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that the European Union is 'determined to preserve' the deal.

She urged the international community to try to preserve the landmark July 2015 nuclear deal, which is the fruit of 12 years of negotiations.
