The World Press Photo Foundation supports the ambition of the United Nations Secretary-General. Laurens Korteweg, Director of Exhibitions at World Press Photo, stated 'We showcase stories that make people stop, feel, think and act. We encourage photographers in the whole world to present their stories and inform the public with different perspectives. We exhibit those stories to a worldwide audience and encourage debate on their meaning.'

He added: 'Every year we receive amazing contributions from Iranian photographers, who are known for their professionalism, good eye, attention to details and high technique. Their experiences are valuable and unique and we hope to incorporate more Iranian photographers into future editions of the contest.'
