WHO hails Iran achievements in fighting Malaria

Alonso made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raisi, held on the sidelines of the WHO's First Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health in Geneva.

The conference aimed to discuss ways and innovations taken by organizations and different countries for confronting air pollution.

According to the latest WHO report released in 2017, there were 57 cases of malaria in Iran, Alonso said.

The figure experienced fall compared with 2000 which was 12,000 cases, he added.

Raisi for his part, said unfortunately most of Malaria cases in Iran are due to external factors.

This disease comes from Pakistan to Iran, he added.

During the meeting both sides underlined setting up a tripartite committee, comprising Iran, Pakistan and WHO, to solve problems as regards Malaria and prevent the disease.
