Speaking to IRNA, he said some 33 people have been hospitalized in different hospitals in the city for mushroom-related poisoning, of whom four died and one is in critical condition and waiting in the list of liver transplant.

A medical survey indicates that death toll among those consuming poisonous mushrooms in various provinces is on the rise.

A large number of people in different provinces have been affected by the poisonous mushrooms.

Some 431 people have been poisoned and are hospitalized in different provinces.

Five out of 223 people poisoned in Kermansh province are now dead.

In Kurdestan province, 83 people have been affected and are under medical treatment.

Three out of 125 people who have been poisoned in Lorestan province are reportedly dead.

Total death tolls as a result of poisonous mushroom consumption stands at 12 and intense medical treatment for others is underway.

Medical officials have warned people not to use unknown mushrooms offered by villagers and only buy packed mushrooms with expiration date labels from supermarkets.

Although only a few of the 70-80 species of poisonous mushrooms are actually fatal when ingested, many of these deadly fungi bear an unfortunate resemblance to edible species and are thus especially dangerous.

People should be more informed of the dangers posed by wild mushrooms. Training of physicians and nurses in the accurate diagnosis and management of patients poisoned by mushrooms would improve the rate of survival, medical official say.
