“Half of the world’s refugees are children. Of the children who are of school age, more than half are not getting an education – that equates to four million young minds not in school even though they are bursting with potential,” UNHCR reported.
“The number of out-of-school refugee children has increased by 500,000 in the last year alone. If current trends continue, hundreds of thousands more refugee children will be added to these disturbing statistics unless urgent investment is made,” it added.
Russian media ‘RT Arabic’ quoted Filippo Grandi, Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as saying that despite the efforts made by the UNHCR and the governments, registering these children at schools has failed.
Training is a tool to improve refugee kids’ conditions, he added.
If children are deprived of schools, they together with societies will be at serious risk, he noted.
