Tehran, Baku can deepen cooperation: Minister

In his meeting with the head of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Abuzar Ebrahimi Turkman, Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev who participated in the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku emphasized that there are many capacities to deepen cooperation between two countries, especially in the cultural arena.

The meeting was held on Wednesday in the presence of Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Javad Jahangirzadeh, and Cultural Attaché Asghar Farsi strengthening of cultural relations and the implementation of agreements signed between the two countries in this area were discussed and reviewed.

Garayev referred to the visit of the head of the Organization of Islamic Culture and Relations to Baku as an opportunity to strengthen the cultural relations between the two countries.

He pointed out the further development of the friendship and fraternity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting, 'These ties rely on to long-standing historical ties and cultural commonalities and cooperation between the two countries is developing in all areas.”

He noted that the joint cultural programs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran, including the cultural days and the weeks of the film, have a positive impact on the development of cultural cooperation between the two countries, and will lead to the strengthening and more mobility of cultural relations.

Azeri official affirmed the visit and negotiations he had made to his visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and pointed to the deepening of the cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan also mentioned the positive impact of implementing joint projects with the participation of Iranian filmmakers and the participation of Azerbaijan's theater in the Fajr International Festivals for the development of cultural cooperation between the two countries, saying that there are many capacities to expand cooperation in other cultural fields.

Garayev also emphasized the necessity of expanding direct cultural ties between the regions and cities of the two countries, adding that the cultural institutions of the major cities of the Republic of Azerbaijan are ready to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Iranian cities.

** Tehran ready to host Cultural Week of Republic of Azerbaijan

Ebrahimi Turkman for his part referred to the activities of the Organization of Islamic Culture and relations such as the holding of cultural and artistic weeks in Iran, the holding of cultural and artistic exhibitions and the spread of Persian language and literature around the world.

Referring to the successful holding of cultural weeks in both countries, the Iranian official underlined the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to host this year cultural week in Azerbaijan and highlighted, “Holding cultural weeks will increase the interactions and exchanges that result in the friendship of the two nations more than before. It also deepens and promotes the level of cultural relations and facilitates political relations between countries.'

The head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization emphasized extremism and activities of takfiri groups as one of the problems of the Islamic world and stressed the need for more efforts of governments to familiarize young people with their original culture.

He emphasized on the capacity and cultural capabilities of the two countries, and declared the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to cooperate with the Republic of Azerbaijan in all cultural and artistic spheres, and the expansion of all-out relations, especially in cultural arenas with all countries, and in particular with neighboring countries such as Azerbaijan.

During the visit, some agreements were reached on the implementation of a memorandum of understanding on cultural cooperation that had been signed during the visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Baku in the past year, by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization.

The 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue will be held on Thursday in Baku for two days.
