Sri Lanka, Yazd to develop tourism industry in each country

“Yazd is the best tourist destination in Iran and many foreign nationals visit this city; same goes with Sri Lanka,” said the country’s Ambassador to Iran, M.S. Anees on Sunday.

“I think we can develop the tourism industry in these regions together,” he added while visiting the historical Iranian city.

The Sri Lankan representative to Iran went on to describe Yazd as his “first choice” if he were to choose among all Iranian cities he has visited so far.

Anees highlighted the similarities between Yazd and Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital, saying many people from various religions and beliefs live in both cities.

“It’s good news that a Zoroastrian forms part of Yazd city council,” he noted.

The Sri Lankan ambassador also stressed that he will take steps to connect Yazd with “one or two cities” in the South East Asian country.

Anees said he wants to develop commercial ties between his country and Yazd, saying “Iranian firms can cooperate in producing construction materials, constructing infrastructure and towers in Sri Lanka'.

Clothes are the major exports from this island nation, that is, it needs lots of raw cloths. “This is where Yazd can cooperate with us a lot,” he stressed.

Head of the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission in Iran said a direct flight between Colombo and Tehran could be launched soon to “promote trade and tourism”.
