Science minister arrives in Brussels to attend Iran-Europe Scientific Meeting

Deputy minister for international affairs Hossein Salar-e Amoli who is accompanying Gholami told IRNA that the meeting will also be attended by five academic figures from various universities, representatives of health, treatment and medical education ministry, Presidential Office’s Scientific and Technological Department and EU’s sciences, technology and innovation commissioner.

Second meeting was held in Tehran last year while the third is to be hosted by Belgium on Wednesday, he said, hoping that the upcoming session would lead to a proposed package of cooperation until the next year.

“EU along with Russia, China and Japan are among Iran’s target countries in the field of science and technology and most significant exchanges are carried out with these countries,” he said.

The official further maintained that 55 percent of Science, Research and Technology Ministry’s research projects are jointly undertaken with EU and the rest with Russia, China, Japan and South Korea.

“Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami will first deliver a lecture at the meeting and then the main talks will start,” Amoli said.

The talks are to discuss building capacity in higher education, undertaking joint research projects, exchange of students and instructors and running joint courses of education by Iran and EU.

Gholami will hold joint talks with Belgian officials on the sidelines of the meeting, he said.

The Iranian science minister and accompanying delegation will leave Brussels for Tehran on Thursday.
