
In an interview with IRNA, Mostafa Mohaghegh said that there should be closer collaboration among regional states in fighting natural calamities.
He said that Iran and Pakistan are located in same geographical region which is prone to natural calamities.
He went on to say that Iran and Pakistan must share information with each other regarding earthquake, climate change, floods and other natural disasters.
The expert added that Iran and Pakistan share same culture, thus they can enhance their bilateral ties using this opportunity.
Mohaghegh said that Iran can enhance its cooperation with regional states to fight natural disasters and can share its experience in this regards. He noted that Iran has vast experience of countering natural calamities.
He said that Pakistan has made a good progress in fighting natural disasters since 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
He said that Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority has performed well in countering different challenges.
The UN official went on to say that regional countries need to work together and pay more focus to have better disaster management. He noted that our region is also facing problems of famine and drought.
He said that Iran is ready to share its capability and experience in fighting these problems with other countries of the region especially Pakistan.
Mostafa Mohaghegh said that smog is not an issue of only Iran and Pakistan rather it has become a universal problem and many countries of the region are also facing the same issue. He was of the view that the issue can be resolved through collaboration among the regional states.
The expert said that a new regional center for disaster management has been established by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Tehran.
The expert said the APDIM is providing opportunities for collaboration among countries in the region.
Mohaghegh added that APDIM is investing to create a data for disaster management which can be accessed easily by government and non-governmental sectors when necessary.
