Police seizes 2.6 tons narcotics in Southeast Iran

'Members of an armed drugs trafficking ring were arrested by Iranshahr police officers as well as Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police,' deputy police commander of Sistan and Baluchestan Colonel Ahmad Taheri said on Saturday.

'During the operation one of the smugglers was killed and over one and a half tons of opium were seized,' he added

'In another operation, seven members of a drugs ring who were smuggling narcotic consignments were arrested,' he said.

Police officers discovered 1.5 tons opium in the second operation, he said.

Sistan and Baluchestan shares over 1,100 km border with Afghanistan and Pakistan and has 310 km maritime boundary along the Sea of Oman.
