Brigadier General Mohammad Qanbari said that anti-drug squad in the Delgan town in the southeastern Iranian province gained information about smuggling activities of a big band and started operations to stop them.
On Wednesday, the police identified the smugglers on Iranshahr-Delgan Road but they fled away and left behind a passenger car and a pickup van.
After inspecting the vehicles, police confiscated 957.21 kilograms of narcotics from one of the vehicles while another 51 kilograms of opium was seized from a smuggler riding another road motor vehicle.
Sistan and Baluchestan is located in the southeast of the country, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan.
