Operations specify limits of Sar Qale Mamouniyeh Hill

After completion of the probing operations in the site of Sar Qale Mamouniyeh, it seems that the historic hill is a castle belonging to the pre-Islamic era with an adobe structure.

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted Ali Nemati Abkenar, head of the archeology team, as saying on Saturday that the probing operations were completed by drilling 20 boreholes.

Nemati Abkenar, who is a Ph.D. student in Islamic studies at the Islamic Azad University, further remarked that the historic Sar Qale hill, located in Zarandiyeh city in north of the Markazi Province, is among the remarkable sites belonging to the historic era.

He noted that prior to the probing operations, survey and registration of the site which is located within the limits of Mamouniyeh town, the center of Zarandiyeh city, had been completed in 2007.

The archeologist said that in the course of the probing operations clay works were discovered which date back to the Parthian and Sassanid eras as well as the early centuries of the Islamic period up to the time of the Safavid and the Qajar.

However, he added, it seems that the site is a castle belonging to the pre-Islamic period with adobe structure many parts of which are currently ruined due to the natural factors.
