Norouz celebrated in Jordan

The ceremony, arranged by Iranian Embassy in Amman and held at King Hussein Cultural Center in the Jordanian capital city, was attended by a group of Amman-based foreign diplomats , some Jordanian MPs and other cultural and political figures of the country as well as Iranians residing in Jordan.

Among the participants were the ambassadors of Italy, Turkey, Japan, Thailand, Romania, Malaysia, Azerbaijan Republic, Russia, Taiwan, South Africa and Venezuela and the charge d'affaires of Indonesia, Iraq and Syria.

Addressing the audience, Iran's Ambassador to Jordan Mojtaba Ferdowsipour referred to the importance of Norouz in Iranian and Islamic culture and said the inclusion of the festivity on the list of UNSCO's cultural heritage in 2009 was of great significance.

Norouz which is celebrated in 12 countries is the harbinger of peace and peaceful coexistence among all nations around the world, the Iranian diplomat said.

During the ceremony, some pieces of traditional music and songs were performed by an Iranian ensemble.

A video clip introducing customs and traditions in ancient Iran in English language was screened for the audience and some brochures containing maps and pictures of tourist attractions of the country were distributed among them.
