No problem for 21 dams in quake-hit areas

Hajj Rasouliha, who is in west of Iran to consider situations of dams and installations in quake-stricken area told IRNA over phone that considering the magnitude of the tremor, according to the international standards all structures and installations within the reach of 125 kilometers from quake center must be controlled and inspected.

In this area there are 21 dams and several kilometers of water tunnels, Hajj Rasouliha said.

The closest dam 'Azgoleh' is 8 kilometers far from the quake center to the remotest dam 'Changiz' in Ilam province by 125 kilometers distance were inspected by colleagues and no problem was seen.

Hajj Rasouliha also explained technical points for the execution of different inspections on dams.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on Richter scale jolted western province of Kermanshah and areas in Iraq on Sunday evening at 21:48 hours (18:18 hours GMT).

The tremor occurred at depth of 11 kilometers underground somewhere close to Ezgeleh town.

The latest toll for earthquake is 407 dead and 6700 injured.

President Rouhani is to visit quake–stricken area on Tuesday.
