According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 04:26 hours local time (00:56 GMT) at the depth of 10 km underground.
The epicenter of the quake was located at 45.63 degrees longitude and 34.13 degrees latitude.
The earth quake happened in 26 km of Gilan-e Gharb, 29 km of Sumar and 42 km of Sarpol-e Zahab.
No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to property.
