Light quake jolts Iran’s border city of Sumar

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 20:37 hours local time at the depth of 10 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 55.45 degrees longitude and 34.11 degrees latitude.

No report on the possible casualties or damages to properties has so far been released.

Late on Monday, another earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale also rocked suburbs of Sumar. It had no casualties and damage to properties.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.

In 2003, a 6.6-magnitude quake flattened the historic city of Bam, killing 26,000 people.
