IRNA chief criticizes biased information dissemination by contemporary media

'People have no access to correct news' these days due to biased publication of information by certain media, Director-General of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Mohammad Khodadi said in a meeting with a visiting group of foreign media representatives and senior officials.

The foreign media delegation is currently in Iran to attend the ongoing 23rd Press Exhibition in the Iranian capital.

Referring to the effects of new technologies and social networks on the work of media, khodadi said, 'Today one-sentence news is much better than one-page news.'

He added, 'We have to produce news based on the taste and interest of our audience.'

Noting that IRNA gives great importance to be present in the international scene most effectively, Khodadi said presently IRNA is publishing its news in eight foreign languages including English, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Spanish, French, German, and Urdu.

'Our Kurdish language outlet will be made soon,' he added.

The IRNA chief reiterated the agency's willingness in establishing cooperation and exchanging media delegations with its counterparts from other countries.

'Exchange of news between IRNA and other media sources is very much important for us,' Khodadi said.

IRNA has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with a number of foreign news agencies to move in line with the government's 'media diplomacy.'
