Iran’s ‘Marziyeh’ wins two awards at Canadian film festival

The 25-minute film, which went on screen on March 9, won the Best Director Award and Best Editing Award in the short films category.

Co-produced by Iran and the UK, ‘Marziyeh’ is the story of a young woman (Marziyeh) and her husband who drive to the wake of a relative. She prepares her appearance to meet the satisfaction of her strict religious family.

During the wake, Marziyeh’s husband, who is in the men’s only section, learns that his wife has described a dream that is taken seriously as an omen by the deceased’s family.

The festival screened 49 films from 19 different countries around the world, including 18 local filmmakers.

The event took place on March 5-10.
