Iranians always realize truth of peace

Beheshti made the remarks in a meeting which was to address the International Day of Peace.

RICHT Public Relations quoted him as saying today it seems that the dream of peace has been disturbed and it should be revived and strengthened on the minds of children, young adults and the youth because as long as the dream of peace is absent its accomplishment is almost impossible.

Referring to the least meaning of peace, namely “no to war”, he said: “Peace in its least meaning is to point weapons at each other but not shoot… In the best possible condition and under the least circumstances it means our relations should be good neighborly relations and we should not annoy each other.”

He considered the zoo as the best example of this condition where the bars of the animal cage prevent them from harming each other and resembled the bars to the international rules and regulations, conventions and agreements.

Pointing to the interesting meaning of peaceful relations in the Persian language he said: “The term ‘hamsayeh’ (neighbor) means both under the same shadow or under the shadow of each other and for this reason in the Iranian culture we believe that you make sure that the neighbors around you have no difficulty, you can sleep comfortably.”

'When it comes to the Persian literature, it would be found out that Shahnameh is not the book of wars, but description of peace,' he said, adding that Shahnameh is full of Rostam’s avoidance of war because he does not want to disturb the dream of peace.

“We have met the truth of peace and recognize it… We have more responsibility in peaceful speculations with regard to our rich heritage in the field of peace… We should employ our wealth in this era when the dream of peace and not the peace itself is at stake,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Maria Dotsenko, Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Tehran, said the theme of the peace day for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

She said the issue is emphatic on the nature of “together” which is a world initiative for the promulgation of respect, safety and dignity for all of those who have been displaced from their homes in search of finding a better life.

Iran’s rich history and ancient traditions of peace-seeking have always rendered valuable contributions to the culture of peace in the region and the world, she noted.

Iran was among the first countries that took steps in 1960s for the establishment of a region free from nuclear weapons and in 1975 provided conditions that the UN General Assembly resolutions introduced the initiative of the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East region, the UNIC director said.

She noted that one of the recent proposals of Iran is the WAVE initiative of President Rouhani, i.e. “A world against violence and extremism” that was approved by the 68th session of the UN General Assembly.

Dotsenko went on to say that the historic agreement of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a great help not only to boost peace, stability and safety in the Middle East, but throughout the world.
