'Publishing books are very effective in preserving human dignity,' Ashraf Boroujerdi said in the opening ceremony of the 4th meeting of directors of national libraries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tajikistan.

She underlined the important role of national libraries in helping people of the regional countries knowing each other.

'Holding workshops, book fairs, and photo and manuscript exhibitions are also important in raising people's awareness,' she added.

Boroujerdi urged ECO national libraries to take advantage of their common rich heritage to present a new image in line with global culture and international forums.

'Inter-cultural interactions and scientific relations will help improve knowledge and develop science,' she said referring to cultural and spiritual commonalities among ECO member states.
