Iranian film ‘Taste of Cherry’ shown in Pakistan

'Mandwa Film Club' organized the film screening at 'Pakistan National Institute for Folk and Traditional Heritage' (Lok Virsa) media center in Islamabad.

The film ‘Taste of Cherry’ released in 1997 resolves about a man, who drives through a city suburb, in search of someone who can carry out the task of burying him after he commits suicide.

Kiarostami's style in the film is notable for the use of long shots, such as in the closing sequences. He creates distance for the audience from the characters to stimulate reflection on their fate. The film was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.

Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) Film Club Coordinator Aijaz Gul talking to IRNA said Iranian movies always attract crowd when screened in Pakistan.

He said as there is a lot of good will among the Pakistani people towards the brotherly country of Iran, so the people do like and enjoy Iranian movies.

The member of International Federation of Film Critics said that we have been showing Iranian movies at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) and Lok Virsa where we also hold question-answer session in which people give positive views about the Iranian films.

Professor at RIPHAH University said Iranian cinema has been one of the main enthralling and appealing cinema industries in the world and they win awards in all film festivals.

Member of NETPAC (distribution company for international top information technology manufactures in Pakistan) was of the view that new Iranian movies should also be shown in Pakistan so that the Pakistani public could know about the new Iranian society and the techniques used by Iranian films makers today.

“I am in touch with Iran embassy cultural center to show more and more Iranian movies in Pakistan,” he said. Gul said there is absolutely no hurdle in showing the latest Iranian movies in Pakistan.
