Iranian film 'Compatriot' grabs award in Netherlands

The flick narrates the story of an Afghan asylum-seeker who has left her country as the bells of Russian war toll in Afghanistan, ifilmtv.ir wrote.

She takes her only child and chooses to live in Iran.

Amsterdam Film Festival was created to award films that have potential to move audiences and change perceptions, and is devoted to filmmakers who are looking to make themselves understood and to communicate, according to a page on the festival's website.

Each year, the Amsterdam Film Festival recognizes excellence in filmmaking in several categories with the prestigious Van Gogh Awards, announced in April each year.
