Speaking at the closing ceremony of the second mourning ritual of ta’zieh in the city of Jam, in Iran’s southern province of Bushehr, Salehi added that visual, musical, vocal in general and theatrical arts in particular, have a lot in common with their peers around the world, but the art of ta’zieh is the only art that is unique to Iranians and reflects their affection for the Household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He stated that ta’zieh is highly connected with the Iranian culture, adding that one of the manifestations of the link is ta’ziehkhani that reaches its climax during the lunar months of Muharram and Safar.
Ta’zieh is one of the religious, traditional and artistic tradition which has been performed in the country for years, he said.
Ta’zieh is a narrative, musical, epic and religious performance which revolves around ‘Ashura’ (the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram when Imam Hussein (PBUH), the third Shia Imam and his 72 companions were martyred).
