Iran, Turkey urge closer anti-narcotics co-op

In a meeting between Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police chief General Masoud Zahedi and Ibrahim Hakki Seydioglullari, the two sides also discussed joint the operations carried out in recent months and agreed on enhancing cooperation between the two countries' anti-narcotics officials.

Intelligence and training cooperation with an aim of elevating surveillance and detention of narcotics smuggling networks were also explored and related decisions were made.

Furthermore, growing process of narcotics production in Afghanistan, fighting money laundering and drugs precursors were discussed in the meeting.

Zahedian also on Tuesday evening met with Mohammad-Ebrahim Taherianfard, Iran's Ambassador to Ankara, and reviewed relations between the two countries.

He briefed the envoy on the joint anti-narcotics cooperation with Turkey.

The general said that fighting smugglers is one of the principal goals and policies of Iran, and thousands of police officers and forces have so far lost their lives for this purpose.

Taherianfard for his part said the cooperation on border control and fight against smuggling is a mutual issue that should be continued and enhanced.
