Iran ready to establish IMO technical cooperation offices

Managing Director of Iran Ports and Navigation Organization Mohammad Rastad made the remarks while addressing the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 held in Szczecin, Poland.

Rastad hailed IMO plans to decrease greenhouses gases as well as sulfur made by vessels.

He also referred to the actions taken by Iran, including the monitoring of the implementation of the requirements of the MARPOL Convention in relation to energy efficiency management, co-operation and active participation in the process of strategy formulation by IMO.

He pointed to increase in transportation costs due to the stringent strategy of reducing carbon to zero, the replacement of existing ships with technical ones and lack of confidence in producing and supplying clean and carbon-free energy as the challenges Iran maritime sector is facing.

Rastad also held talks with IMP Secretary General Kitack Lim, ministers and heads of maritime organizations of China, Singapore, South Korea, Portugal and Poland .

The event was held with the participation of over 40 IMO member states on June 13-15.
