Iran proposals welcomed at UN’s 57th social development session

Mesbah Ansari, Head of Foreign Ministry’s Office for Social Development, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the Commission for Social Development session focused on empowerment of people who have been affected by the natural disasters.

Attendance of Iran as a member of administration of justice was point of the session, Ansari said.

At the UN Commission for Social Development session, Iran stressed the importance of paying more attention nationwide to the disabled and to the people with disabilities, the envoy said.

He added Iran also proposed giving attention to participation of the displaced in natural disasters’ maneuvers in order to make them less vulnerable.

Although the Westerners are after holding political meetings at the UN, the developing countries are more interested in meetings which concentrate on development issues, he said.

States parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities are obliged to ensure safety before, during and after disasters, UN Commission for Social Development quoted Ansari as saying.
