Iran pioneer in launching brain mapping biobank

Speaking to IRNA, Mansour Fatehi said in addition to Iranian researchers, the foreign ones are also interested in taking advantage of the Iranian biobank facilities.

Referring to good cooperation with University of Valencia in Spain, he said Iranian biobank has been established after consulting with biobank workgroup of the European radiology association.

Fatehi expressed hope for increasing regional cooperation to pave the way for foreign researchers to take advantage of its facilities.

He went on to say that there are over 5,000 brain mapping samples in this center.

Brain mapping is a set of neuroscience techniques predicated on the mapping of (biological) quantities or properties onto spatial representations of the (human or non-human) brain resulting in maps.

According to the definition established in 2013 by Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), brain mapping is specifically defined, in summary, as the study of the anatomy and function of the brain and spinal cord through the use of imaging, immunohistochemistry, molecular and optogenetics, stem cell and cellular biology, engineering, neurophysiology and nanotechnology.
