Iran, Oman to hold joint maritime drill: Military official

The drill will be held with participation of Iran's Navy and Police and Royal Oman Police, Brigadier General Qadir Nezami, deputy commander of Iranian Armed Forces General Staff for international affairs told reporters in this Iranian capital city.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 14th meeting of Iran-Oman joint military and defensive cooperation committee, Nezami said Iran is entitled to promote its deterrence capabilities in order to defend the country's national security and interests.

Iran is a pioneer in the fight against terrorism and this is why the country has been put under pressure by the US and certain Western and regional countries, the military official said.

He further stressed that Iranian Armed Forces will strongly respond to any threats to be posed by the enemies.

On the today's military meeting between Tehran and Muscat, Nezami said the committee is to review the two countries' relations in the past years and their security ties in the future.

Under current conditions where Islam's foes including the US and Zionist regime of Israel are busy sowing seeds of discord among Muslims, holding meetings like the one between Iran and Oman is an indication of convergence between countries for establishment of peace and stability in the region and world, he concluded.
