Iran, Iraq to sign MoU on Arbaeen ritual

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency on Thursday, Brigadier Mostafa Moradian said both countries' readiness for signing MoU was underlined in a meeting with Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji.

The MoU deals with making necessary arrangements for Arbaeen pilgrimage, he said, adding that it will be signed by Iranian Minister of Interior Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli.

During the meeting issues related to opening joint committee on Arbaeen to facilitate and accelerate pilgrims’ walking process were also discussed, he added.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of the Shia Muslims.
