Iran influential member of IFRC: Red Crescent chief

'Iran is a member of the Governing Board of the International Federation of Red Cross for the next four years,' Peivand told the English News Desk of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) during his visit to the Agency's Headquarters in Tehran.

Answering a question on the Society's role in addressing the deadly 7.3-magnitude quake in western Iran in November 2017, he said that from the very early hours after the quake hit parts of the Kermanshah Province, relief workers of the Red Crescent Society were dispatched to the quake-hit areas.

He said that the Society is still engaged in the quake-hit regions helping to cure psychological pains of the victims and their safe return to ordinary life.

'Iran's Red Crescent Society and the International Federation of Red Cross have signed an agreement worth 23 million Swiss Francs to launch a joint operation to provide quake victims with psychological support, good nutrition and aids to help people in the affected areas return to normal life.

The powerful November 12 in Kermanshah earthquake left at least 630 killed and 8,100 more injured.
