Iran, Cyprus to develop academic cooperation

The MoU is set to define and lay out the outlines of the two countries’ five-year educational, scientific and research cooperation.

Cypriot Education Minister Costas Kadis, who is set to arrive in Iran this weekend, will sign the document with Iran’s Science, Research and Technology Minister Mansour Gholami on Saturday.

The two ministers are also expected to work out details of student and professor exchange.

A European Union member state, Cyprus is playing an active role in Europe 2020 strategy as well the Erasmus programme.

“Cyprus has also been actively accepting foreign students,” said Hossein Salar Amoli, head of the Ministry’s International Cooperation Department, adding that Iran is also trying to get more foreign students in its university.

The official said there aren’t any Iranian students who study in Cyprus with a scholarship. However, there are 1,400 students who are self-funding their studies in this European country.
