Indian drivers enter Iran on way back

Head of Ramesh Mahapatra group told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Monday afternoon upon the group's arrival to Astara Custom Office compound that the group comprising 40 athletes with 18 automobiles arrived in Bandar Abbas maritime port late April and then passed through Isfahan and Astara to enter the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia.

The group will drive back to Bandar Abbas Port and then return to India by ship.

Route of north-south of Iran is an important transport axis for connecting the littoral states of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman to littoral states of the Caspian Sea and Russia which is the most important ring in trade between Asia and Europe and is shorter and cheaper as compared with other routes.

Astara border city in northwest of Gilan province with a population of 91,000 is neighboring Azerbaijan Republic and its border crossing point is usually crowded and active.
