The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted Yaqub Mohammadi-far, the head of the archeology team in Baba Kamal area in Tuyserkan, as saying that the hill had been damaged in recent years as a result of different factors.

Referring to the fact that the archeological project in the area was conducted upon a permit received from the head of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, he said the purpose of the exploration was stratigraphy, determining the limits and proposing the privacy of the site.

He said 15 boreholes were made in the exploration in order to make its limit clear and propose its privacy, adding that out of 3 boreholes in the northern and eastern sides of the hill, remarkable results were achieved.

He further remarked that in the trenches of the high hill area, various layers of the Islamic period, the Parthian era as well as the Iron Age III (probably the Medes) were identified.

Among the identified achievements, Mohammadi-far pointed to the identification of Iron II layers under the Iron III layers which is very important for mapping the sequence of stratigraphy in the Central Zagros and west of Iran.

He continued by saying that in the Godin 3 early layer of this period, especially the 6 and 5 phases of Godin 3, were well identified, which were located underneath of the layers of Yaniq culture, and therefore the site can be considered as one of the southernmost points of the presence of Yaniq people in the Central Zagros cultural zone.

Mohammadi-far noted that in the course of explorations, layers of the Copper and the Middle and New Stone period, under the layers of the Old Bronze Age, were identified.

He said with regard to the different cultural periods identified in Baba Kamal hill, the area could be considered as one of the most valuable sites in the Province of Hamedan in the cultural field of the Central Zagros and west of Iran which has a very good potential for the research study on different cultural and historical periods, including the Yaniq culture, Godin 3 culture, and Iron II and III (probably the Medes).
