Foodfest held in Iran's int'l university

Nasrollah Pour Mohammadi Amlashi said students from 11 countries, namely China, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Syria, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Yemen, Lebanon and South Korea presented traditional cuisine from their country.

A student from Syria ranked first, while two participants from China and Iraq jointly ranked second and two others from Yemen and Afghanistan jointly ranked third.

Amlashi considered food festivals among the major ways to connect cultures, adding the goal of the festival was to get familiar with different cultures and customs through their cuisine.

He added in tandem with the festival, Yalda (the longest and the darkest night of the year which is December 21st) and the traditions observed during it were also introduced to non-Iranian Persian Language learners.

Persian Language Teaching Center of Imam Khomeini International University, in the city of Qazvin west of Tehran, is the oldest Persian-teaching center in Iran, teaching about 250 learners of different nationalities.
