Famous Pakistan university to establish Persian language department

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Director of Iran Cultural Centre (Khana Farhang) in Peshawar Abbas Famuri and pro-vice chancellor of the university Prof Dr Naushad Khan.

Abbas Famuri during the meeting said that ties between Khana Farhang and prestigious Islamia College University are more than fifty years old.

He stressed upon the need for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education, especially with a reference to Persian literature.

Expressing his views, Dr Naushad Khan said that Islamia College University is willing to start cooperating with Mashhad University.

On the occasion, senior professors of the university and the administrators of language departments were also present.

Islamia College University founded in 1913, is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Pakistan. Initially established as Islamia College, it was granted university status by the Government of Pakistan in 2008; the word college is retained in its title for preserving its historical roots.

The university provides higher learning in arts, languages, humanities, social sciences and modern sciences.
