Bushehr; Iran's maritime, energy tourism destination

Nowadays, at a time when the Government of Islamic Republic Of Iran is focusing efforts on reducing its reliance on oil revenues, tourism promotion in the South, especially in the Persian Gulf province of Bushehr, can be a significant source of expanding and promoting its financial incomes.

Huge oil and gas and petrochemical facilities in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in Bushehr province have been established which bring more and more development to the area and ushers a new industrial era and fresh activities.

Various sectors of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone is going on stream one after the other. Despite the increase in domestic gas consumption , the zone both supplies the country with its gas needs and part of its output is exported.

A spectrum of industries and large petrochemical companies are active in this strategically important area which is witnessing an increase in the number of petrochemical complexes. In addition to petrochemicals, the oil and gas and petrochemical industries are also expanding in this area.

*** Bushehr province; a maritime tourism destination

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Coastal (maritime) tourism refers to land-based tourism activities including swimming, surfing, sun bathing and other coastal recreation activities taking place on the coast for which the proximity to the sea is a condition including also their respective services.

Maritime Tourism refers to sea-based activities such as boating, yachting, cruising, nautical sports as well as their land-based services.

Handicraft products of Bushehr province are famous in the world , as it is presented in the worldwide markets, including Europe and various Asian countries.

During Nowruz holidays (March 25 to April 05, 2019), 500,000 travellers used sea patrols of the province, said 'Siavash Arjmandzadeh' Bushehr Port and Maritime Administration Director General.

Arghavan Mehdizadeh , head of the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, too, hails the growing income of the province from handicrafts and notes that during the same period, over 21 billion rials worth of handicrafts were sold.

'Mats, craft and pottery' are among the handicrafts of the province of Bushehr, she added.

Bushehr province is a very significant strategic point for Iran as it hosts one of world's largest energy hubs. Due to its ancient history, it also has a lot to offer to tourists from both in and out of Iran thanks to many old monuments and natural sites like Siraf.

It is also the port which sends most of Iran's oil to countries across the world which adds to its importance.

Located off the Persian Gulf coast, the province of Bushehr boasts more than 700 kilometers of coastline where beachgoers can enjoy the sun, sand and a variety of other water sports. About 80% of Bushehr have a coastline alongside the Persian Gulf. Its tourism potentials have largely been overlooked in favor of the region’s massive oil and gas reserves.

The province has numerous attractions appealing to modern foreign tourists. For example, construction of an international water sport complex in Bushehr Province started last week, following an inauguration ceremony attended by Minister for Sports and Youth Masoud Soltanifar.

The complex will be built over 300,000 square meters within Bushehr Tourism Village, according to Iranian media.
