Azeri news agency hails OANA role in reinforcing regional news outlets

Aslan Aslanov in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) described the OANA meeting in the Iranian capital as 'beneficial', saying, 'We aim at promoting Asia-Oceania news agencies as well as improving their professional skills.'

'I would like to thank Managing Director of Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Zia Hashemi for high standards of the 43th meeting,' Aslanov said.

'The reports published before and after the meeting drew public attention,' he added.

The chairman of Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azertac, referred to the attendance of Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi in the media event and added, 'This reflects the Iranian government’s care for media affairs, including OANA.'

Aslanov also expressed his support for IRNA’s presidency for the 2022-2025 period.

'With long-time experience, professional background, and expert journalists, IRNA can successfully manage OANA.'

Iran, as a long-standing member, held OANA's rotating presidency in 1997-2000.

The period was followed by a term of vice-presidency until 2016. The country is now a member of OANA executive board.

The 43rd OANA Executive Board Meeting was hosted by IRNA in Tehran, Iran on September 3, 2018.

Vietnam News Agency (VNA) will host the next OANA Executive Board Meeting early April 2019 in Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.
