Austria interested in working on Iran's ancient sites

The archeological works aim to examine the process of location of settlements in those areas, the Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT), quoted the Austrian Iranologist as saying on Saturday.

Schwarz pointed to the executive programs which had been previously presented by the team, and said: “We intend to examine a large perspective in a small site during a long-term plan in the field of archeology which in addition to archeology also include history and for this reason we have come together from three institutes.”

We do not consider implementation of an extensive archeological project, but rather we intend to reach such targets through geophysical activities, survey on the surface, and so on and then expand it to wider areas, she added.

Shirvan (Sarab Kalan) is a village dating back to the Sassanid era in parts of which no construction has been made and therefore could be studied. She noted that the Austrian team intends to conduct survey about the Neolithic period, in fact from the Pre-History to the Sassanid era in the area while taking the historical period and archeology in general, she said.

“Historically on paper very fast we can reach the conclusion that the Sassanid era came to an end at a period of time but understanding the reason is a task which requires overall study.

Meanwhile, Andreas Polz, head of the Institute for Ancient Culture Studies, explained about the process of shaping of the settlements and reaching from the plain to the hill, to the mountain, etc. and study of those historical passages and presenting them as a pattern for the Middle East are among the questions which will be followed in this research.
