Archeologists discover 20 historical monuments in eastern Iran

The plan for the survey and identification of the city of Binalood was conducted mainly on the study of petrograph, head of the archeological team Hamid Qandehari was quoted by the Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) as saying on Wednesday.

He described the image of the districts of Torqabeh and Shandiz as completely mountainous in terms of topography which embodies the middle part of Binalood heights in the direction of northwest-southeast expansion and elongation.

The narrow valleys and natural passageways in the expansion direction of northeast-southwest are the only natural spaces in the geological texture of the area under study with natural springs and aqueducts, Qandehari said.

Overall the natural valleys and areas with water resources such as springs and aqueducts have been used as the den and temporary place of settlement and for keeping the animals during the middle and recent Islamic centuries, he said.

He went on to say that influential and important factors such as lack of natural resources, proper vegetation coverage and flat and smooth, impassable and rugged passages and lack of appropriate access routes, justify absence of settlements and works of different periods.
