700kg of opium seized in southern Iran

Talking to reporters, Brigadier Khalil Vaezi said a drug smuggling gang intended to transfer a big consignment of opium from Bushehr to Fars Provinces but was stopped by police in southern Iran.

During the operation, three cars were stopped and four smugglers were arrested, he added.

In a meantime, authorities in southern Iranian Province of Bushehr have confiscated 19.640 tons of narcotics since the start of current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2018).

The figure shows 20 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.

During this period, 48 distribution gangs and 2,711 smugglers were also arrested.
