
Kahnouj governor, Vahdat Eidi, told IRNA late Tuesday that immediately after the occurrence of the quake, Crisis Headquarters convened in the premises of the governor’s office, and the members of the headquarters are still on standby.
According to Seismology Institute of University of Tehran, the earthquake occurred in Kahnouj city at 22:57 local time.
Another quake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Kahnouj in March, leaving six people wounded.
Over the past six years, the number of the quakes ranging from one to three on the Richter scale occurred in Kerman province was 1,770.
Iran sits on several major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries.
