16 die in rain-related incidents in Pakistan

In north western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seven people were killed and many others were injured in rain-related incidents.

Torrential rain also damaged 33 houses in the province.

This is while in south western Balochistan, nine people were killed and many injured in recent rains which led to flooding in the province, with several villages cut off from the rest of the province.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has received reports of over 500 houses sustaining damage due to the rain in Balochistan.

The Pakistan Army has been aiding in search and rescue operations in the province.

According to the army media wing ISPR, army helicopters are being used to airlift trapped people to safety. Relief camps have been set up in Makran and Lasbela.

Approximately 1,500 families have been relocated to safe places from Lasbela. The military has provided rations to 3,500 families.

Doctors and paramedics from the army are working to treat any injuries people may have sustained.

Turbat, Buleda, Zamran, Tump and Mand areas also received heavy rains with thunderstorm between Friday and Saturday night that caused havoc in Turbat and parts of Kech district.
“The floodwater entered several villages of Kech and 16 people of Askani Kour Absar were stuck in the heavy rain,” a senior official of local administration said, adding that they were rescued by FC personnel using helicopters.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa had assured full support to the government and people of Balochistan in relief and rescue operations.

Talking to a private news channel, the chief minister said that around eight to ten thousand people had been affected by torrential rains and snowfall.
