1,400 plant species on the verge of extinction in Iran

'Out of 8,000 plant species in Iran, 1,400 of them are seriously on the brink of extinction,' said Mohammad Alamuti, Iran's Secretary of the Coordination
Council of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) on Environment Protection.

He was speaking in a gathering in the city of Qazvin themed the International Day for Biological Diversity.

Alamuti said there are hundreds of thousands of other animal species in the country.
