1.3m Iranians suffering epilepsy

Hossein Pakdaman said at press conference on Thursday that epilepsy is a condition that, if diagnosed quickly, reduces its effects and improves patient's quality of life.

'In the European and American countries, it is a great deal of research and treatment for patients with epilepsy, but in Iran, much attention is not paid to research to diagnose and treat these patients,' he said.

The head of the Iranian Association of Neurology said the high rates of traffic accidents in the country are one of the main causes of epilepsy and said the rate of epilepsy in Iran was two to three times as high as that in the developing countries.

The Head of the 15th International Congress on Epilepsy said that an epileptic drug, similar to the foreign one, will soon be produced internally and its Iranian production was much cheaper than the foreign one with the same quality.
