Iran, Armenia agree to cooperate on rescue and relief

The high-ranking Iranian delegation, headed by Iran Red Crescent Chief Amir Mohsen Ziaee, in talks with Armenian ministers and authorities on Tuesday explored relations expansion in rescue and relief and other related fields.

In a meeting with Armenian Minister of Emergency Situations Davit Tonoyan, the two sides agreed on creating a working group, holding drills and short-term educational courses, establishing medical clinics, receiving Iran’s experience on road rescue stations as well as provincial cooperation in border regions on rescue and quick response operation.

Similar issues as well as establishing joint clinics, exporting medicine and medical equipment, and exchanging knowledge on other related subjects were also agreed in Ziaee meeting with Armenia Minister of Health Levon Altunyan.

Iran’s Red Crescent head and his Armenian counterpart Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan agreed to exchange experience in rescue and relief and humanitarian affairs. They also singed a memorandum of understanding.

In the meeting between Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Development Davit Lokyan and the Iranian official, it was agreed to explore the ways of promoting Tehran-Yerevan cooperation.

President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Yerevan and his talks with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan last winter paved the way for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Armenia with a population of three million and an area of 30,000 square kilometers is located to the southern Caucasus region. The country, neighboring Iran, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan, declared independence in 1991 after the collapse of the former Soviet Union.
