Parts of water supply system of Arg-e Bam identified

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted head of the archeological explorations team Assadollah Joudaki Azizi as saying the water supply system provided water for the city’s public bath through a subsidiary channel.

He pointed to the city of Bam as one of the most important historical cities in southeast Iran, saying that the historical centerpiece of the city is a large and adobe complex which is known as “Arg-e Bam” (Bam Citadel).

He said that the structure displays the profile of one of the few but at the same time traditional and historical cities of Iran.

Joudaki went on to say that the results of research studies revealed that Arg-e Bam complex has the structural characteristics of a hippodamien (grid) city many examples of which have been identified in Mesopotamia and Central Asia.

He added that except for the identification of the possible location of the gateway, review and study the structure of the water supply system in this section was a necessity that would justify archeological explorations of the tower.
