Canadians rally against racism, Islamophobia

He gathering was held at City Hall in Calgary on Saturday to support immigration and decry racism and Islamophobia.

Calgary Anti-Fascist Action (Antifa) staged the demonstration to show solidarity with the city’s Muslim community and to demand prohibition of anti-Islam activities.

The police were widely present in the rally; the witnesses said one was arrested for throwing a lit cigarette.

Since the US President Donald Trump has taken office in the US, racist and anti-Islam groups’ activities have risen in Canada.

On recent days, an anti-Islam group announced that is was going to hold a protest against Islam, whose permit was denied by the city.

The Worldwide Coalition Against Islam (WCAI) was the organizer of the rally that was denied based on being hatred-spreading messages.
