Zarif’s phone conversations came after certain Arab Persian Gulf states announced that they have cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
Doha has rejected the accusations as baseless.
In the concerted action of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) plus Egypt against Qatar, followed by a number of other Arab states, they also closed transport links with the gas rich country which is highly dependent on imports to meet its needs.
Zarif also conferred with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Sabah and his Lebanese and Algerian counterparts in continuation of his consultations with regional counterparts on latest developments in the region.
Earlier, the foreign minister called on Persian Gulf states to settle problems through dialogue, as he contended that “pressures and threats” will not work.
He wrote in his twitter page on Monday, “Coercion is never the solution. Dialogue is imperative, especially during blessed Ramadan.”
Zarif also exchanged views with his counterparts in Turkey, Indonesia, Iraq and Oman on the latest developments in the region.
