Vigilance by Tehran, Moscow, Damascus unraveled anti-Syrian plot: Expert

“While the situation remains to be sensitive, both on an international and regional scale, we witnessed the missile attack on Syria’s Al Shayrat airfield by the United States,” Akbar Qasemi-Aliabadi told reporters from Muslim countries participating in a meeting on extremism in the Russian capital on Friday.

The US attacked the Syrian airbase on the pretext that Damascus had used the base to deploy chemical weapons against its own people, an allegation strongly denied by the Syrian government.

“What left everybody astonished across the world was the sudden and surprising nature of the missile attack conducted without any legal basis,” Qasemi-Aliabadi who headed Iran’s media delegation further said.

According to him, hitting the Syrian airfield by 59 American Tomahawk cruise missiles was conducted by Washington and with the green light of some of its allies in a bid to impose inappropriate conditions and change the balance (of power) to their own benefit.

“But the vigilance exercised by Iran, Russia and Syria as well as their insistence on setting up a fact-finding committee to investigate who were the real perpetrators of the sinister chemical attack on Khan Shaykhun foiled the plots by all those who were after killing the peace process in Syria,” he said.
